Jack Bernard is a second-year undergraduate student in the Urban Technology program at Taubman College, University of Michigan. His academic interests lie at the intersection of digital systems and the urban environment, with a particular focus on how technology and public policy can shape the built environment. Jack is deeply interested in the regulation of digital infrastructures and their potential impacts on societal outcomes, ranging from urban equity to governance. As he continues his studies, Jack is excited to contribute to the evolving field of Urban Technology, with a focus on community capital, participatory planning, service design, emergency management, data governance, and regional transportation. Originally from the Los Angeles area, Jack has been actively involved in local advocacy, focusing on affordable housing, active transportation, sustainability, and social justice. Outside of his academic work, he runs a small business in the esports industry, specializing in broadcast production and event planning for clients across the spectrum, from top-tier gaming organizations to local school districts introducing esports programs for their students. Jack’s entrepreneurial mindset and interdisciplinary approach drive his work, and he is always eager to engage in innovative projects that address contemporary urban and digital challenges.
